Beyoncé '4' Digipack
This Beyoncé cover for her album '4' shows her sticking a very strong pose. Her name is at the sky line of the CD which is positioned behind her photo. She looks off into the distance with a furry scarf covering her chest and what seems to be her underwear. It seems to me that this is a very sexy and provocative image which could represent the type of songs she has on her album. However she seems very powerful which embodies her believing in independence. Her album title is on the bottom right in bold which makes it very clear to the audience and consumers. Her make up and styling is quite bold yet simplistic with her pose and centre positioning being the main vocal point. It is a mid shot from her hips to head, taking up the centre colum of the CD. There is very little text on her front cover, making it very simple.
The inside of her album shows her posing with the city as her background, almost as if she rules her kingdom as to the media she is often known as 'Queen B'. She is wearing a black bodysuit showing off her stunning legs. In this album and the front cover she is seen showing quite a bit of skin but shows that she embraces her body and proud of her curves which we all know she is. It image is in colour as she poses in the centre of the photo letting her body and angles take up most of the image. It is a long shot of her and uses natural lighting as you can see the sun hitting the right side of her body. It was certainly taken on location and she again looks very powerful and confident.
The CD it self is red bit the letter 'B' written on it. The 'B' stands for her name and is a nickname given to her by the media and her fans and what she often calls herself. It is a very simple design but the font of the 'B' is quote fancy with plenty of swirls and flicks which shows that she is still very feminine.
The back of her album again shows her name in capitals as the skyline and an image of her looking over the city in the same location and clothes as the image on the inside of her album. Her writing is always in black and uses the same lettering throughout. Her song titles are written on the right and the barcode and producers at the bottom right. Her pose again shows of her curves and is very strong. She is known for her sexy songs and videos and these images reinforce this. Also she barely uses any effects and allows her location to speak for itself.
Advert
This advert for her album 'I am.. Sasha Fierce' shows the two images she uses for the cover and back cover for her album. 3/4 of the advert is the photographs which are very different. One representing Beyoncé and the other her ultra ego 'Sasha Fierce'. Her poses are quite similar however in the first image she is wearing minimal makeup and no visible clothing and the right Is the exact opposite with heavy makeup and jewellery. The lettering stays the same and is in capitals. It makes it very clear when the release date is and what the album title is. It shows her features on the right and it all flows and compliments each other.
Again, you do some really nice image analysis of the CD package. Less strong on lettering, although you do discuss this. You need to outline which elements are typical / conventional in CD packages. Your case study of the magazine advert is too brief.
